FIFA12: Initial impressions from a hardcore real life player, but not watcher

this is graphic in detail. be warned

So here I am, writing a blog 12 people will read and no one will care about. Omg, I have become one of "them". Excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit....

full disclosure: I'm a 33 year old hardcore sports gamer. I suffer from Social Anxiety disorder. I am a former high level amateur soccer player hailing from the very middle of Canada ( no You eastern snobs, Manitoba.)

Soccer is my first love. I'm 5'7, and although hockey comes an extremely close 2nd, soccer always have my heart. I have such a passion for soccer, I can't watch it. It just makes me want to play.

I quit Soccer when I was 21. It was the love of my life, but family illness (my mother was suffering from Alzheimer's, may she rest in peace). My father and I were her caregivers.

I truly can't describe a pain (for me at least) harder than watching the woman who raised you, stare at you and demand you tell her her only son is.

I came within minutes of killing myself. The only thing that saved me was the good man upstairs.

I was homeless at 31. I took care of my father the last year of his life. Truth be told, I think he took better care of me, than vice-versa. When he died, I suffered a nervous breakdown. Ive been told I left a suicide note, I don't remember doing it.

If it wasn't for the mental health services in my tiny town of 13 000, I would be dead. They have a house that houses people going through a time, with full time "proctors" to talk to you if you want, make your meals, and just be there unobtrusively while you figure things out. The manager of the house, a guy I truly consider a friend now, encouraged me to go back to school (I had formal education, then realized it wasn't my calling). I am now a health care aide who will become a full time grief counsellor, eventually.

Fifa 12 is truly an amazing game. It is the first sports game that has rekindled my passion for it. My biggest problem is I have a standard tv, and I'm OLD yo, I can't read the tiny print. Also, some of the team backgrounds are incredibly frustrating. My team, the Vancouver whitecaps, I can't read the numbers. (White on with grey font EA??? ReALLY???

The gameplay itself is gorgeous. The way the players move into space, call for the ball, everything, wow. It is far from a perfect game. There are glitches that can be expolited, I am sure. I don't care. I bought this game because I love soccer. I have played it for one hour, both online and off.

My biggest issue is this: I don't follow professional soccer. I can't. It makes remember that I once wanted to be a professional soccer player. It makes me remember that I had dreams of representing Canada in real life competion.

And I'm going to the gym. This game (ok, not JUST the game, but..makes me want to conquer my remaining demons, and do it with ease.

And you know what? I will. And I am determined to spend the rest of my life helping people who are suicidal realize that it can get better. But you can't do it alone. I tried. I failed. I love short sentences and paragraphs. If it annoys you I don't really care. I do it for the ****.

Actually, I do it because I'm a lazy writer.

So in conclusion. If you are a casual soccer player, at the very least, rent this game, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Brb i gotta be at the gym in 26 minutes

and just FYI EA has not paid me for this. However, if they hired me as a spokesperson, I would ask all money be donated to a charity of my choosing. The Uncle Stumpy would love free money foundation.
